A few figures have stirred up some controversy amongst MUSCLEheads. These figures are not shown on the poster nor on any other official MUSCLE item, yet they have the same MUSCLE-like plastic and feature the Y/S*N*T trademark. They are periodically found in MUSCLE lots from both the US and Japan. Are they truly MUSCLEs?
Thanks to Doctor Dew for compositing and restoring the poster image above! The M.U.S.C.L.E. poster was a mail-away offer from Mattel. One could be ordered by sending two four pack proof of purchases or one 28-pack proof of purchase. At first, the poster featured all-pink figures. As the line expanded into non-pink colors, the poster was updated with the new colors. Shown here is the all-pink poster.
28-packs cost $6.99 in the 80s (according to scans of the 1986 Sears Wishbook at Action Figure Archive ; I also saw a 28-pack with a Bradlee's price tag with the same price). Four 28-packs were offered: Thug Busters, Cosmic Crunchers, Mighty Maulers, and Cosmic Showdown.
